Champions League:Inter Milan vs CSKA Moscow -by trig

Prior to this preview, I would like to take this opportunity to express my condolences to the families of the victims of the suicide-bombing attack (my grammar may be wrong for this expression… but you know what I mean, don’t you?) in Moscow.

Now, to football… if you look Inter’s form… it doesn’t really look good, does it? And nope, I don’t think they played with any reservation in their defeat to Roma… after all, their league leaders’ status was at stake too. However, I would prefer to ignore their league form here… well, this is CL… and not Serie A… and their opponents are from Moscow and not from Rome. So, Inter will be all out to gain the upper hand prior to their visit to Moscow. They will be missing several players (particularly at the defense)… while the Balotelli issue is still ongoing and there is no saying if he will feature or not. Playing at San Siro will be a huge advantage to Inter… but I don’t think they will underestimate CSKA Moscow. As a matter of fact, I don’t think anybody should underestimate CSKA at all. No doubt on paper they look relatively very weak… but who would have expected to see them at this stage of the campaign in the first place. To reach here is no easy task… some people say they are overachieving but if that’s the case, so did Porto last time, didn’t they? Anyway, being able to reach the quarterfinals is already an achievement by itself… and with the recent incident in Moscow… they will be dedicating their performance to their people back in Moscow… and this will make them really dangerous. CSKA will have almost a full strength squad (I read some news stating that Honda is doubtful though)… but the most important thing is that they will be all out for an away goal. And why is the away goal so important to them? Because Inter will be playing on a synthetic pitch in the second leg… and CSKA has not conceded more than a goal in their CL home matches this campaign. In a sense, if CSKA can keep up their home performances in the return leg… Inter may not be able to fully utilize the away goal rule to their advantage. Anyway, CSKA will be looking to score… and they have that capability. Meanwhile, I believe anyone with a functioning brain will not be staking on Inter not to score at San Siro… after all, CSKA’s defense away from home is not too impressive.
