Champions League
2010-05-22 – Bayern Munich v Inter Milan
Sports Betting Preview by Cruiser
This is the match we have all been waiting for – the Champions
League Final – with Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan coming up against
Louis Van Gaal’s Bayern Munich side.
Not content with being the ‘special one’, after his success with F.C
Porto in the European Cup, which came before his achievements at
Chelsea, Jose Mourinho, could finish all what he has done before and
be the king on the European continent. However, standing in his way
will be Bayern Munich and Louis van Gaal who is hoping to end
Inter’s dreams.
Jose Mourinho already have won the Serie A and Coppa Italia so he is
now seeking a historic Treble which could be achieved with a first
European Cup in 45 years, while it would also offer Mourinho the
chance to join an elite group of managers who have won the
competition with more than one club.
But if rumours are to be believed then Mourinho is set to light up
the stage as the final will take place at Real Madrid’s home stadium
the Santiago Bernabeu and he is set to move there as the head coach
of Real Madrid.
But Bayern will not just sit back and let Mourinho dictate. Bayern
have enjoyed a somewhat of a rejuvenation under manager Van Gaal,
who was close to a sack in the winter.
This match has been billed as a “God versus son of God” as Van Gaal
had acted as a mentor for Mourinho’s early career having offered him
a break as his assistant at Barcelona in the late 1990s.
And ironically, Bayern themselves are fighting for the treble after
finishing on top in a dramatic Bundesliga season and lifting the
German cup to allow Van Gaal, a European Cup winner with Ajax in
1995, to reinforce his reputation as one of the world’s best
coaches.
Inter made it through after stunning Chelsea, seen off CSKA Moscow
and shocked holders Barcelona in the knockout stages to show that
despite being the underachievers they are not the favourites for the
cup.
Bayern, though, have also impressed after coming through Group A to
eliminate Fiorentina, Manchester United and Lyon to set up a
fascinating meeting with their Italian counterparts.
Neither team will be at full strength at the Bernabeu as key men
will be missing from this Final.
Inter are without Brazilian defensive midfielder Thiago Motta after
he was controversially sent off in the semi-final with Barcelona.
Julio Cesar should keep his place in goal, while Maicon, Lucio,
Walter Samuel and Javier Zanetti are expected to make up the
defence.
Then we have Esteban Cambiasso, Goran Pandev and Cristian Chivu who
are likely to form a flexible midfield trio behind Samuel Eto’o,
Wesley Sneijder and Diego Milito.
Bayern are without star man Franck Ribery after he failed with his
appeal against his red card in the first leg of the semi-finals
against Lyon. Hans-Jorg Butt will keep his place in goal, with
Philipp Lahm, the highly-rated Holger Badstuber, Daniel van Buyten
and Diego Contento starting in defence.
Hamit Altintop, Mark van Bommel, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Arjen
Robben are set to start in midfield, with Ivica Olic and Thomas
Muller in attack.
